Review:
“The Apothecary Diaries” is a captivating series that manages to grip your heart from the very first episode. It tells the tale of Maomao, a palace maid, who unravels the mysteries of the inner court one by one with her wits and courage. Jinshi, a seemingly handsome eunuch with a lot of influence, helps Maomao along the way. Although Maomao may seem cold due to her demeanour and words, she is actually kind at heart.
Additionally, “The Apothecary Diaries” is an intriguing tale of mysteries that Maomao has to solve in each episode. The question is whether the occurrences are really separate or whether they are part of something ominous. Can Maomao stop it? Can she, a lowly maid, withstand the palace’s internal politics?
While the series is not a comedy show, the interactions between characters, their backstories, and emotional storytelling will make you laugh, cry, and be in awe throughout. Furthermore, you are bound to fall for the animation and the beauty of the women in the inner court, as the animators did a fantastic job bringing it to life. Give it a watch. You won’t regret it.
